Open Space Project

The Borough will be completing phase 2 of the Open Space Greening Project this fall.  The Open Space Greening Project consists of shade tree planting and installation of bike racks at various locations throughout the Borough. Phase 1 was completed over the course of the 2010 spring and fall planting seasons, and included new street trees along Fayette Street, Cherry Street, Poplar Street, and Ash Street.  In addition, a significant number of new plantings were added in various locations through Sutcliffe Park.  The 2011 project will focus on street trees along the Borough Avenue's.  An inventory of existing trees was performed to determine the locations most in need of additional greening, and this project includes many of those areas.  The most recent phase of the Fayette Street Streetscape will also be completed by planting of street trees in the previously constructed tree pits.  Finally, a buffer area will be installed at Mary Wood Park between the park and the Fellowship House.  All species have been hand selected by the Borough Shade Tree Commission to best fit each location in terms of aesthetics, growth characteristics, maintenance requirements, and the general character that each planting can provide the Borough.  Funding for the project is provided by a Montgomery County Open Space Grant, and is administered by the Borough of Conshohocken.
